El Ron Prohibido Solera Reserva Finest Blended - Mexican Rum

El Ron Prohibido, is a Mexican rum made from a blend of rums of different ages, blended with used raisin wine barrels – an intriguing choice that pays off with distinctive sweet and sour notes and a dense, luxurious mouthfeel. Very elegant also in its presentation.

Tasting Notes: Nose chopped nuts, brown sugar and waves of vanilla. As you continue, you'll start to get a lot of raisin and plum notes. With a viscous and enveloping flavour: honey, dark chocolate and raisins, black coffee, nutmeg and oak. Final with strong coffee notes.

The Distillery: The history of the “El Ron Prohibido” distillery has its roots in the 18th century, when the Spanish ships that arrived in America loaded with reserves of wine, instead of returning to Spain with empty barrels, began to fill the barrels with Mexican rum, called “Chinguirito”. During the return journey, the distillate was therefore enriched with the organoleptic connotations released by the wood, and offering itself with surprising aromas and flavors to say the least, it began to be successful and in great demand in the Iberian domestic market. However, the demand for "Chinguirito" became so high, to the point that the king of Spain, at the time Philip V of Bourbon, chose to ban its production, so as to protect the internal trade of Spanish spirits. Since then, the "Chinguirito", also known as "Habanero", became "El Ron Prohibido", today a brand that identifies an original Rum, based on an ancient recipe and matured for twelve years following the dynamic aging method called Solera.
