Whisky Single Malt Matsui The Peated - Kurayoshi

Single Malt Whiskey Matsui The Peated - Kurayoshi

The Matsui Single Malt Whisky Series was launched in 2018 and features the first releases distilled and aged at the Kurayoshi distillery (Tottori Prefecture). The series consists of three releases: in addition to the Peated, there are two other unpeated single malts, one aged in Mizunara casks and the other in cherry (Sakura) casks. The Matsui Single Malt Peated is a peated Japanese whisky with no age restriction, aged in ex-bourbon American white oak casks before being bottled at 48% abv without added colorants. The water used for dilution comes from the springs of Mount Daisen. The limited-edition packaging is inspired by the work of Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai and his most famous work, "The Great Wave off Kanagawa," painted between 1830 and 1831 using the ukiyo-e woodblock technique.

Type: Whisky

Origin: Japan

Alcohol Content: 48%

Format: 70cl with Gift Box

Tasting Notes: Bright gold in color. The nose offers notes of barley malt, earthy peat, and aromatic herbs with hints of cocoa and vanilla. On the palate, peat smoke envelops notes of apple, ginger, vanilla, and brown sugar. The finish is medium-lingering, with the smoke continuing to accompany notes of grilled pineapple, apple, vanilla, and oak.

Distillery: The Kurayoshi distillery is located between Osaka and Hiroshima, in Tottori Prefecture, at the foot of Mount Daisen. The distillery has only been producing single malts for a few years, but the results are truly remarkable. The Matsui single malt whisky series consists of three releases: in addition to the Peated, there are two other unpeated single malts, one aged in Mizunara casks and the other in cherry (Sakura) casks. The Matsui Single Malt Mizunara Cask is an unspecified Japanese whisky, aged in Mizunara Japanese oak casks before being bottled at 48% abv without added colorants. The water used for dilution comes from the springs of Mount Daisen. The limited-edition packaging is inspired by the work of Katsushika Hokusai, one of the most famous Japanese ukiyo-e artists (literally meaning "painting of a floating world"). What we see depicted is one of his works: “Umezawa in Sagami Province”, one of the paintings from the series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji.
